ABOUT ME

WELCOME TO
THE SWEET HELL WITHIN

PAINT SCRATCH FEVER

"I make heads. The reproduction of features is an almost superficial task and I maintain a minimal allegiance to realism. What I favor is distortion in the brushstroke and a palette of forceful colors to probe the interior. I use acrylic on black gessoed canvas and scratch into human images with a menagerie of objects."               -  Selene Vasquez

A face expresses a universe of meaning. I gravitate towards extreme states of emotion, perhaps more appropriately termed as neuroses.

My obsession with Death shadows my earliest childhood memories and dominates my brushstroke like a bittersweet muse.

I prefer the familiar realms of my own troubled psyche, but the turmoil of our times forces a critical eye on American politics.

My work has a deliberate crudity that aligns well with human nature. At its most genuine, painting poses a perilous journey of self-reflection.
